Feb 21-Do You Know What Essentials Oils Are?
Plants are the basis of essential oils; these oils in living plants are
the immune system of the plant. The oils are extracted from the bark,
flower, fruit, grass, leaf, needle, rind, root, seed and wood of various
plants and sold in a 100% concentration.
Extraction methods make then very highly concentrated. Small amounts are
all that you need for most recipes. Contrary to their name, essential
oils do not feel oily; most are clear, but some are amber colored. It is
important to understand that absolute oils are not the same as
essential oils. Various solvents are used during extraction for absolute
oils and these oils are used for making fragrances.
Extraction may be by steam (or water), expression, or supercritical CO2.
These methods each have distinct processes and reasons for using them.
Steam: this is the purest and most popular method for extraction plant
oils. Plants are steamed in a pressurized container. As the steam pushes
through the plant, the oils are evaporated as everything cools, the
oils return to their liquid form and are able to be collected.
Expression: this method is less popular simply because it cannot be used
with most plants; only oils that are locked in the peel of citrus
fruits can be extracted by this method. Citrus peels, which are infused
with much oil, are pressed. This literally squeezes all liquid from the
peel and this liquid must be filtered to collect the oil.
Supercritical CO2: this method utilizes carbon dioxide (CO2) in the
extraction process and is used to extract oils which emanate the truest
fragrance for the plant.
Therapeutic grade essential oils are distilled with low pressure and low
temperatures, according to the plant that is being used. These oils are
used in aroma therapy to achieve various psychological effects. For
instance, lavender is considered relaxing while peppermint is
invigorating. Inhalation or topical application are the main ways that
aromatherapy employs to achieve the desired effects.
Important notes:
Essential oils should not be used on young children and pregnant women.
Essential oils should essential oils be ingested, some are highly toxic.
Essential oils should be kept away from eyes (in case or contact, blot with olive oil and rinse well
Essential oils: How Can You Use Them?
Home use of essential oils usually consists of bath additives and
topical application (which may be through use in organic skin care or
though massage using organic products).
Essential oils (like lavender) used in your diffuser can create a
calming atmosphere for everyone in your house. Effects from essential
oils usually last about four hours.
As a bath additive, use an oil that produces a certain effect, for
instance, a morning bath may have rosemary as an added oil because
rosemary is stimulating. A mere 6 drops of essential oil to your
bathwater is enough. Remember that the oils are very highly
concentrated.
Topical application through organic skin care is very popular today
because many people are making their own skin care treatments at home
using organic ingredients. This approach to skin care is a return to
yesteryear with a twist.
We have learned so much about skin and this knowledge added to ideas
about skin care from much simpler times give organic skin care a step
above skin care lines that boast many man made chemicals. The addition
of essential oils to the organic systems gives you wonderful
psychological effects that are not available through most large
commercial lines.
If you are currently using a ready to use organic skin care line that
does not feature essential oils as ingredients in the line, contact the
manufacturer before you try adding them. There may be reasons that the
manufacturer has opted against the oils, and you need to know about
possible conflicts in ingredients.
Topical application through organic massage emollients is usually a
simple mixture of a preferred organic essential oil (usually a calming
oil) to an organic carrier oil. A carrier oil is simply a vegetable oil
rich in nutrients.
Many of the carrier oils are extracted through expression. Jojoba is one
of the most popular carrier oils (apricot kernel, grapeseed, and olive
are just a few of the others). For massage, use about 6 drops of
essential oil to 1 ounce of carrier oil. If olive oil is your choice, it
is wise to dilute this with another carrier, for example, you would add
6 drops essential oil to 1/2 ounce olive oil and 1/2 ounce jojoba. This
is because of olive oils strong scent.

February 14 -Local psychic (Patricia Monna) devotes time to finding missing people
-
Published on Tuesday, 07 February 2012
-
Written by April Ip, Calgary Journal
Supernatural abilities, however, not used by RCMP in any capacity
Incense. Candles. Pendulums. Crystal balls.
While these objects may seem foreign in our daily lives, they are but a common sight for Patricia Monna.
Monna is a psychic practitioner who assists law enforcement in
solving missing persons cases. She is also the owner of Our Angels
Center for Well Being, a local psychic shop in Marda Loop.
"I've known I was psychic my whole life. But it wasn't until my
parents passed away that I even opened up to the possibility that my
gift could go somewhere," Monna said.
After the back-to-back losses of both her parents — her father to an
accident at work and her mother to breast cancer — Monna turned to what
she calls her "psychic gift" for comfort and fulfillment.
She said that all her life she was taught to suppress her psychic
abilities. "I remember one of the first visions I had was of myself
falling off my bike before it happened."
Brought up in a very born-again Christian household, she was often
taken to different pastors in the hopes they would pray the visions and
psychic abilities out of her.
"My gift was seen as a hindrance and I was scared it was demonic."
Monna
said that her psychic abilities expanded through the grieving process
of her parents' death. "It was such a pull, I couldn't deny it any
longer. Essentially I turned to my psychic gift because I wanted to be
able to talk to my parents.
"I started doing readings out of my home and within a month it all just sort of blew up."
Monna said that through word of mouth she was contacted by Jerry
Snyder, a retired law enforcement officer and founder of Find Me.Homicides to missing persons,
Snyder, a retired Arizona drug enforcement officer, said that his
non-profit organization consists of retired police, 100 vetted psychic
consultants and canine search and rescue professionals. Everyone who is a
part of the team works on a volunteer basis.
Snyder said he has worked with Monna on eight cases and "so far she has been exceptional."
"I remember I had been investigating a case where I had already
determined who the suspects were," he said. "Patricia came to a meeting a
few months after that and described the suspect's house like she was
standing right in front of it. There was no way she would have known
that information beforehand."
RCMP says no to psychic assistance
Snyder said that since the organization assists in cases worldwide,
at least five situations have landed on Canadian soil. While his
organization assists at no charge, he confirmed that the RCMP has not
been cooperative.
"Unfortunately there is no working with Canadian law enforcement.
They have refused working with psychics many times in the past."
He added that the organization has tried explaining what the success
ratios have been multiple times. "However when the RCMP already has a
certain mindset, it makes it very difficult to search on Canadian land."
Snyder said that in the nine years the organization has been running
it has only been turned away 10 times worldwide. Out of those 10 times,
five have been by the RCMP.
"I am not sure if they are misinformed or if they are acting out of a
pre-set restriction to work with psychics." He said that to date the
organization has solved over 25 missing-person cases.
An RCMP spokesman didn't dispute Snyder's claims.
"In all my years of working I have never seen a psychic employed or
assigned on a volunteer basis on a specific case," said Patrick Webb,
RCMP media relations officer.
He said that typically the RCMP has found that information flowing
through psychics is no more or less valuable than someone who calls in
with a tip regarding a case.
"We treat psychic information the same way we treat any other type of information that comes through.
"We assess the quality of it and how much value there might be in the
tip. Meaning we don't discount it right off but at the same time
psychic information doesn't get any more credibility."
Webb said that the RCMP has found a wide range of psychics available.
"If we worked with one psychic we would be asked why we're not
working on another. In that case we would also have five to six
different pieces of information to follow up on."
Lisa Woykin is one of these other psychics, but said she would like
to see Monna take on a more active role in Canadian investigations.
"Patricia is excellent at seeing the intricate details of any given situation," Woykin said.
"I know Patricia can help the families privately, but in terms of
RCMP and Canadian law enforcement, she is limited in where she can
search for the bodies."
Waykin said that it is unfortunate that Monna is not able to bring peace to certain families who are working with the RCMP.
Monna, meanwhile, said she's disheartened that the RCMP continues to be uncooperative.
"The cadaver dogs have the ability to smell bodies," she said, "I
have this natural ability to help as well, but yet they trust dogs
instead of humans. Sometimes that is a little hard to handle."
Getting into the psychic zone
However, she's pleased that she has been able to work with Snyder on cases outside of Canada.
"It's awesome volunteering with Find Me because I get information
like license plate numbers and the make and model of vehicles. I see
things very vividly and can pinpoint how the crimes unfolded.
"I have this crazy gift and if it can help bring a loved one home, that's what I am here for."
Monna said that all psychics working on a case get something similar to a wanted poster.
"We are also provided with the victim's birthday, date missing and
the missing from location. After that we use Google Earth to narrow down
the latitude and longitude of where the body and suspect are."
Monna said that for her, getting into the psychic zone feels like a
memory. "It's like I've watched your movie or I've have read your book.
While it may look like I am daydreaming I am actually reminiscing and
looking in on your information."
February 6 - What is Shamanism?
Garrett McCoy
Recent research
now dates Shamanism to be around 40,000 years old. Just to give you an idea of
how old that is, Earth 40,000 years ago, was populated by at least 3 different
species of Humans. Our early Human ancestors used Shamanism to gain control
over the natural world. Calling the Rains, blessing the crops, and protecting
the livestock were, and still, are some of the duties of Shamans across the
world.
The Shaman can
also assist those around them in healing and nurturing the body from chronic
disease, pain, fears, stress (emotional, physical and spiritual), injury,
trauma, nightmares, and even bad luck. Most of the time, people feel like they
are “trapped” in their lives and are having troubles moving forward. Shamanism
works with anyone who is willing to let go of those things that are weighing
them down.
So how does
Shamanism work? I will use a sliver as an analogy to explain the process of
Shamanic Healing. When we get a sliver in our hand, we immediately experience
pain and maybe some bleeding. The pain may last for a couple days and then go
away. The same can be said for when we experience an event that we deem
“hurtful” or “negative”. An energetic sliver is lodged in the Luminous Energy
Field (LEF) around our body. After a while, the sliver in our hand may begin to
fester and turn red. Each time we touch the spot, we experience the same pain,
maybe the pain is 2x worse. When the energetic slivers are left to fester in
our LEF, our chakras begin to feed off the heavy energy. This heavy energy
begins to inform the systems in our body such as the Endocrine system. We begin
to form limiting beliefs surrounding the event; we may also begin to feel
physical effects. The longer the sliver stays in your hand, the worse the pain
gets. The same can be said about the energetic sliver. We may go around for
years with this sliver in us, while it continues to inform us in undesirable
ways. Once we get out the tweezers and dig that sliver out, the festering may
still continue. Digging the sliver out will only remove the cause of the pain,
not completely heal the wound. We must also apply antibiotic ointment to the
wound so the skin may heal and fill in the hole left by the sliver. The Shaman
removes the energetic slivers from the clients LEF, and fills the hole up with pure
light energy, thus illuminating the wound. With the sliver out of the LEF, the
Chakras begin to feed off pure energy from our LEF, and we begin to let go of
those limiting beliefs we have created. What we used to label a “wound” now
becomes a source of power and compassion. Added practices such as meditation,
Yoga, and fires are used to speed up this process. The Shaman may also use the
help of Plant and Animal energies to assist the client.
I look forward
to working with you in the near future.

February 6 - Vedic Astrology
Lorae Marsten
Vedic Astrology is the original Astrology
from India.
It was developed by the ancient sages who intuited our deep connection to the
heavenly bodies. It is very accurate, can be used not only for self-development
but to choose timings and make predictions. Most importantly, Vedic Astrology
comes with powerful Remedies so you can overcome problems and move forward
toward more health, wealth and happiness.
Five simple Ways You Can Benefit from Vedic
Astrology:
- Learn about the important Moon Phases and use them in your
life. The Moon is the most changeable planet, going through all its many
phases in a month. If we know what sort of energy we are receiving from
the Moon on a particular day, we can choose our activities wisely, perhaps
postponing important decisions or actions till a time when the energy is
more supportive. We all know the Full Moon is a good time to meditate; you
can go far beyond this in honouring the cycles of the Moon.
- Have a reading and find out about your birthstar, or Nakshatra.
This asterism is also connected to the Moon and provides you with an
energy related to your soul. You are growing into the positive aspects of
this Nakshatra. Once a month on your birthstar day, you have a powerful
opportunity for support and growth in your life!
- Increase your experience of, and capacity for love, devotion,
fun, beauty and prosperity by honouring the planet Venus on Fridays. Hint:
soft pastel colours are compatible with this gentle planet.
- Screw up your courage and become a warrior in your life by
using Mars energy. Be careful here – if it gets out of balance you can
become angry and impatient. Here is where we ask the Archetype that can control Mars to help us. His
name is Muruga or Subramanian. In Hawaiian culture he is known as the
Sanat Kumar.
- Honour the Sun: He has been waking up the world for four and a
half billion years and never missed a day. He shines with Good Will on all
alike and his powerful, purifying energy can transform your life. Greet
the Sun with reverence every day!
Jan 31 - Wonderful Intentions
Mary Anne Lema RBT
Reading an excerpt from Robin Sharma’s book, The Secret Letters of the Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, I reflected on how this pertains to the start of a new year, and new resolutions made. So many have these wonderful intentions on how they are going to change, add, decrease, start …..etc., and then fail to execute. When we fail to follow through we set into motion stress due to our failure(s). Our self esteem goes down due to disappointment in ourselves, followed by self condemnation and thus stress. Long term chronic stress leads to health issues – be it physical or emotional. The reason for this is the constriction which is produced within our bodies. It can show up as HBP, anxiety, depression, fatigue, panic attacks, a lowered immune system which can in turn create the dreaded C word and so on.
And so, with the start of a new year, 2012, I encourage you to set in motion the tiniest of consistent actions which will lead you toward the goal you have set for yourself, be it weight reduction, spending more time with your family, eating healthier, getting regular exercise, addressing an addiction, gifting yourself with time to relax and enjoy, etc. If we but keep our goal in mind (a great way is to write it out and put it where you will see it every day), have a plan of action and make small consistent daily actions to move towards it. By this time next year you will find yourself in a better place.
Remember, the tiniest of consistent action is always better than grand intentions.
Excerpt “The way we do small things determines the way that we do everything. If we execute our minor tasks well, we will also excel at our larger efforts. Mastery then becomes our way of being. But more than this - each tiny effort builds on the next, so that brick by brick, magnificent things can be created, great confidence grows and uncommon dreams are realized. The truly wise recognize that small daily improvements always lead to exceptional results over time.”
Jan 23 How does Energy Healing work?
Lisa Woykin
A few years ago I was recognizing certain pains and ailments that seemed to come and go. I was attending university classes and when I was stressed I would experience problems such as stomach aches, acid reflux, headaches, and neck pain. I sought out various treatments (both medical and holistic) to help alleviate the symptoms. When attending a free lecture on The Yuen Method with Sharon Thom, a Yuen Method practitioner and instructor I offered to participate in one of her demonstrations. Through muscle testing and intuitive insight Sharon was able to clear my headache and anxiety in minutes. It was as if buttons were pushed on and off (strengthening and deleting items from my energy) and changes occurred instantly in my body. From there I was hooked and took the training to become a practitioner myself.
There are many forms of energy healing that help people heal physically, mentally, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually. Examples of healing practices include: Reiki, The Yuen Method, Emotional Freedom Technique, Body Talk, Healing Touch, Polarity Therapy, Pranic Healing, Restorative Touch, Shamanic Healing, Thetahealing and more. Satish Dholakia, founder of Inner Cosmos, and practitioner of Kriya Shakti believes that individuals have their own type of vibration and describes how one can heal from a distance. He says subjects are identified by their unique signature frequency and the intention or focused consciousness is transmitted through the universal energy field and is received by the subject. We are all connected energetically and can automatically tune into someone's energy through identification and intention. For example how easily it is to dial a friend's phone number and within seconds hear his or her voice and make a connection. There is a variety of levels of communication that occurs between the practitioner and the client.
Science has yet to quantitatively prove how energy healing works however, leaders in the field are making improvements in their explanations. In an article titled, “How Energy Works in the Body,” Rev. Guy N. Larsson states that the function of energy is described as atoms that are made up of neutrons and protons that are surrounded by electrons and it is the speed, direction, and spin shape of the electrons that determine how the atoms functions to make the cell work. “What affects the electrons?” This is where science has a difficult time providing curious minds with the answers and proof to this question. It is similar to the question “What is a 'thought'?” It is again a difficult concept to dissect and explain. I would say one has to be in touch with their extrasensory perceptions or intuition to see the proof for themselves or one has to work with an intuitive person or healer to experience the changes in their mind and body or experience the benefits of intuitive advice. Larsson answers with, “According to minds including Albert Einstein, Gregg Braden, Bruce Lipton, and other researchers, it is perception or thoughts and beliefs that direct electrons' rotation and speed.” The saying, “when it rains it pours,” is a prime example because when things seem to go wrong it brings a person's mood down and then more negative events seem to occur. Our worries, fears, anger and beliefs not only impact the choices we make in our lives but can take a toll on our physical bodies.
There is energy all around us and it seems as though our earth, our universe is one giant Internet. Therefore our thoughts and actions can have an impact on our moods, our body and on other people. Therefore in choosing any form of energy work where through intention, asking, touch, through love and intuitive awareness one is able to connect with universal energies and heal another individual. Science is able to explain electromagnetic energy, biochemical reactions but is unable to explain or prove how those energies and reactions are impacted by intangible things such as thoughts, intentions perceptions and beliefs.
